Intermediate Chinese Language Courses for Non-heritage Students

 

Non-intensive Intermediate Chinese I Part 1 (for non-heritage students)

CHIN 331 (3) – Term 1 (4hrs/week)

CHIN 331 is a continuation of CHIN 234 with a holistic approach to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills of the Chinese language at the intermediate level for non-heritage students. This course seeks to provide students with the followings: (1) 250-300 most commonly used Chinese characters and phrases; (2) Further understanding of Chinese grammar; (3) Abilities to read expository and narrative writings with familiar vocabulary; (4) Basic writing skills of short essays; (5) Speaking skills to cope with real life situations; (6) An understanding of Chinese culture and society.

Textbook : Integrated Chinese (Simplified Character 3rd Edition) Level 2, Part 1

Prerequisite : CHIN 233, 234 or equivalent

Placement interview : required (except for continuing students with advancement approval from previous class)

Continued Area of Study : CHIN 333

CHIN 333 (3) – Term 1 (4hrs/week)

CHIN 333 is a continuation of CHIN 331 with a holistic approach to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills of the Chinese language at the intermediate level for non-heritage students. This course seeks to provide students with the followings: (1) 250-300 most commonly used Chinese characters and phrases; (2) Further understanding of Chinese grammar; (3) Abilities to read expository and narrative writings with familiar vocabulary; (4) Basic writing skills of short essays; (5) Speaking skills to cope with real life situations; (6) An understanding of Chinese culture and society.

Aiming at further developing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills of the Chinese language at the intermediate level for non-heritage students, this course seeks to provide students with the followings: (1) 250-300 most commonly used Chinese characters and phrases; (2) Further understanding of Chinese grammar; (3) Abilities to read expository and narrative writings with familiar vocabulary; (4) Writing skills of short essays; (5) Speaking skills to cope with real life situations; (6) An understanding of Chinese culture and society.

This course seeks to provide students with the followings: (1) 500-600 most commonly used Chinese characters and phrases; (2) Further understanding of Chinese grammar; (3) Abilities to read expository and narrative writings with familiar vocabulary; (4) Basic writing skills of short essays; (5) Speaking skills to cope with real life situations; (6) An understanding of Chinese culture and society.
