ROC (Taiwan) Ministry of Education Mandarin Enrichment Scholarships

The “2019 Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program” and “2019 Taiwan Scholarship Program” have both been announced on the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver (TECO)’s website

The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship:

Purpose:

  1. To encourage international students (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao SAR students are not eligible) to study Huayu courses in the Republic of China (Taiwan);
  2. To provide them with opportunities to increase their understanding of Taiwanese culture and society, and to promote mutual understanding and interactions between Taiwan and the international community

The Taiwan Scholarship:

Purpose:

The Taiwan Scholarship Program was established by the Republic of China (Taiwan) — the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to encourage outstanding international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan. In addition to providing study opportunities for a wide range of disciplines at Taiwan’s universities and colleges, this program also aims to:

  1. Promote knowledge, understanding and friendship between people in Taiwan and in countries around the world.
  2. Provide opportunities to increase academic and educational links with international institutions of higher learning.
  3. Develop outstanding professionals and experts to meet the needs of the global society.

Overseas Learning Opportunities

TAIWAN – Learning Chinese in a Living Classroom in Taiwan | CHIN234

This course is led by Professor Hsiang-ning Sunnie Wang. An overseas language course involves learning not only the language but also the culture, both spoken and unspoken, of the people who speak that language daily and the ways they live and think. CHIN234 is a six-week intensive Chinese language course designed to help you develop and apply your Chinese language skills while being immersed in the unique environment of Taiwan and interacting with local people.

***You will receive 3 credits from UBC and 3 transfer credits from National Taiwan Normal University***

All students nominated for Exchange, Research Abroad, Global Seminars, Summer Abroad or Study Abroad programs will be considered for awards. A separate application is not required. If you meet the eligibility criteria, then you will be notified of your award after nomination to the program.
