Advanced Modern Chinese — Reading and Writing II (for non-heritage students)
CHIN 403 (3 credits) (3hrs/week)
Read and write the language like a pro. CHIN 403 is a continuation of CHIN 401 for non-heritage students at an advanced level. The course revolves around the textbook and in-class activities aiming to expand on students a vocabulary, stock phrases and word collocations; solidifying, expanding, and refining the fundamental knowledge of Chinese grammar; developing students’ reading strategies for the comprehension of sophisticated materials dealing with dynamic social and cultural phenomena; and improving students’ speaking and writing skills to cope with topics about social, cultural and economic issues. This course corresponds with the ACTFL Advanced-Mid/High Level Language Proficiency.Textbook : Reading Into a New China Volume 2 (Duanduan Li & Irene Liu, 2010)
Prerequisite : CHIN 401 or equivalent
Placement interview : required (except for continuing students with advancement approval from previous class)
