「课程简介」CHIN435/CHIN437是一门高级汉语语言课程,着重探讨商业汉语,主要教学目标是通过讨论商业话题和进行相关阅读,提升学生对中国当代商业文化的理解,提高学生商业用语的能力。可能你会疑惑:商业?听起来好复杂——不必紧张,在此课程中,我们主要关注语言的学习,商业知识则是促进语言学习的辅助工具,所以没有商业知识基础的同学们也不用担心影响该课程的学习哦!

 

「课程特色」如果你还是担心语言学习太过枯燥乏味,那你更应该好好了解一下CHIN435/437——本课程的最大特点是它高互动性的学习模式。通过将课堂教学与社区参与相结合,在师生之间,学生群体之间,学生与社区之间,都建立了高效的互动。所以不仅仅只是听学练习那么单调,本课程鼓励每一个人将课堂知识应用到现实,发挥自己最大的能动性,创造自己的价值。

 

 

「往年成果」一定还有小伙伴好奇,这门课具体要求我做什么样的社区活动?商业领域听起来好陌生,我能做好吗?那让我们来看看往年的同学们所经历和完成的有意义的内容吧!2018W的课程是由王祥宁老师任教的,王老师鼓励大家集思广益,各施所长,提高汉语学习的个体参与度。比如,去年CHIN435的学生实行了一个有趣的商业计划项目,以小组合作的形式策划一个在学校开甜品店的方案——哇哦!是不是有些像角色扮演?想象自己是一个甜品店的经营者,跟团队一起讨论制定经营方案,是不是很刺激?再比如学生们走出自己的舒适圈,走上街头,走进社区,实地访问本地华人,包括他们对于中美贸易战的看法——一日街头记者体验!是不是超棒超有趣?更值得一提的是学生们在课程中拍摄的展现中华情怀的微电影《你的世界》,从最开始的策划方案,到中期的硬件准备,包括在唐人街和中山公园的实地调查及拍摄,再到后期的编辑制作,最终呈现出完整的作品,每一步都是学生与老师共同努力的成果,都蕴含了每一个人的心血——我的天哪!化身专业编导完成一部影视作品,这也太酷太有创意了吧!等等类似的团队作业都可以让你直接地参与到最真实的汉语环境当中,直观地感受中华文化氛围,通过商业策划锻炼自己的汉语应用能力。

 

 

「挑战」当然,作为一门高级课程,CHIN435/CHIN437也必定包含具有挑战性的部分,让我们来听听往年的同学们都是怎么说的吧:

「新学期」新学期的你,想了解商业情景和日常沟通中的汉语有怎样不同的表达吗?想身临其境地感受商业氛围的奥妙吗?想尝试用新学到的汉语知识经营商务吗?那不妨加入商业汉语的集体一起探索吧!今年的CHIN435/437课程将由吕明珠老师带领,在教学内容方面有所调整,但是学习目标是一样的。课程会加入更多样化的主题,融入更多元的风格与形式,欢迎每位感兴趣的同学来创造新的精彩!错过了435的同学们,也可以考虑加入CHIN437的课堂,437虽然是435的延续,但是讨论的话题和内容并不是连贯的,所以没有学过435的内容并不影响大家学习437哦,期待并欢迎大家的加入!

 

 

 

CHIN 437 Business Chinese

CHIN 435/CHIN 437 is an advanced Chinese language course, with its main goal being the advancement in understanding contemporary Chinese business culture, thereby promoting students’ abilities to use appropriate language when discussing business-relevant issues through relating articles. In this course, business knowledge will serve as a means of facilitating language learning.

The key feature of this course is the highly interactive learning model which serves as its foundation. The course combines in-classroom teaching and community-based participation which together, creates refreshing interactions not only between teachers and students but also between peers and the community at large.

In previous years, the course was taught by Professor Hsiang-Ning (Sunnie) Wang. Past students have expressed that the structure of the course encouraged in-class participation, and practical projects allowed the application of core competencies in real-life situations. For example, last year in CHIN 435, students were asked to complete a business proposal that sparked interest—they worked together as a group to create a plan of opening a dessert shop on campus. Then, in CHIN 437, students stepped out of their comfort zone and conducted street interviews in the community to gather local Chinese people’s insights on the trade disputes between China and the United States. However, the most noteworthy project of all would be the microfilm Your World. From preliminary planning to official preparation, then from the field survey to the filming process in Chinatown and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden, followed by editing and post-production, students were finally able to present their final product. Each step was built upon the result of teamwork and required every member’s best efforts. It can be said that such group projects allow students to fully immerse themselves in Chinese culture, as well as an opportunity to also exercise their language skills through the application of business planning in real life.

Of course, as an advanced course, CHIN 435/CHIN 437 also has its challenges. Let’s take a look at what previous students have to share with us:

 

“Besides the texts in class, the instructor also encourages us to expand our horizons through reading to strengthen our understanding of Chinese and its usage.”

 

“When you work  on a team-based project, you need to consider  every detail and plan every step. It wasn’t easy, but it taught us how to work together in a professional setting  and also prompted us to use our language skills to communicate in a much more effective manner.”

 

This year’s CHIN435/CHIN437 is taught by Professor Mingzhu Lu. Despite slight adjustments made to course content, such as the addition of more diversified themes, styles, and forms,  learning objectives remain mostly the same. Although CHIN 437 is a continuation of CHIN 435, the topics and contents discussed are not linear. With that being said, students do not need to be previously enrolled in the former to do well in the latter; those who have missed this term’s CHIN 435 can still register for next term’s CHIN 437. The program looks forward to welcoming you to the course!
