Roles and responsibilities: CLP TAWL Job Description
Period of Employment:
Term 1: September 7th, 2021 – December 22nd, 2021
Term 2: January 10th, 2021 – April 27th, 2021
Term 1 & 2: September 7th, 2021 – April 27th, 2021
In order to be considered for a TA/WL position in the 2021 Winter Terms, you must qualify for all requirements below:
- Fluent in both Mandarin and English
- Have a valid SIN
- Be a current student at UBC, meaning you cannot have graduated in May 2021 (2020W2).
- If you are an international student, your study permit must be valid during your TA/WL appointment.
- You must be located in Canada during your employment duration.

STEP 1: If you are interested in our program and meet all the requirements above, please fill out an application here: 2021 Winter Term CLP TAWL Application
STEP 2: If selected, you will be informed of the result of your application by our HR assistant An Ni by August 16th, 2021.
STEP 3: After selection, you will be invited to complete the following optional items:
- Complete a pre-workshop assignment on Canvas (You will receive an access code to self-enrol a course).
- Attend our TAWL Candidate Training Workshop on August 23rd (2:00-5:00 PM PST) and August 24th (2:00-5:30 PM PST).
While both these items are optional, it is strongly recommended for those that wish to become TAWL.
Please note that generally, it is impossible to make firm decisions about appointments until class enrollments are solidified at the end of the registration period. UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA1): $20.33/hour*
Undergraduate WorkLearn: $18.04/hour*

Question 1: Are those pursuing a Master’s degree also eligible to apply for a TA/WL position?

Question 2: What are some differences between a TA and WL?
Answer: TA/WLs have different work assignments and responsibilities. For more information, please refer to the CLP TAWL Job Description.
Question 3: Can I apply for Term 2 positions if I’m busy in Term 1?
Answer: Yes, you may choose your preferred work period in the application survey.
Questions 4: Can I work outside of Canada?
Answer: You must be located in Canada during your intended work period(s). If you’re unsure of your residence circumstance, please leave a short note under the related question.
